WIZARD’S FIRST RULE – A Sword of Truth Novel by Terry GOODKIND

I was never big on Fantasy being more a hard-core classic science-fiction fan but when a friend suggested that I start this series, I was willing to give it a try. She was so right!

The story seems simple: a woodsman is chosen to carry a magic sword called “the sword of truth” to fight a very evil mage by the name of Darken Rahl. Along the way, he is helped by an old friend, Zedd, a wizard, and a beautiful but mysterious woman he falls in love with, Kahlan.

This is an amazing journey filled with monsters and a cute dragon, terrible suffering moments, but also moments of wonders and beauty. The pocket version is 800 + pages but there is so much in it that it doesn’t feel too big or boring. Terry GOODKIND possesses a rare talent to make you so interested in the story and the characters that you don’t want to let the book down. I was hooked to the story from the start.

A word of warning though. There is a lot of very graphic violence, even torture at some point in the story. I wouldn’t recommend this book to younger readers. It’s mature reading in its nature but great reading. There are 6 volumes… so far. I can’t wait to start volume #2. There is even a preview of it at the end of volume #1 just to tempt you.
